AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY RECEIVES $1.6 MILLION IN
NEW LRAD® ORDERS FROM U.S.ARMY RESERVES AND U.S. NAVY
U.S. Military Expands Long Range Acoustic Device™ Deployments
SAN DIEGO, CA, October 20, 2009 American Technology Corporation (ATC) (NASDAQ: ATCO), the innovator and distributor of the Long Range Acoustic Device™ (LRAD®) product line, announced today it has received approximately $1.6 million in new LRAD acoustic hailing device (AHD) orders from the U.S. Military. The orders include an initial LRAD 500X™ order from the U.S. Army Reserves and the Company’s first LRAD 300X™ order from the U.S. Navy. The orders are scheduled to ship this quarter.
ATC’s proprietary LRAD product line includes the LRAD 100X™, 300X, 500X, 1000X™ and the remotely operated LRAD-RX®. LRAD directed sound products and systems enable military forces to determine the intent of potential threats at safe distances, providing time and distance to employ a measured response to a threat’s actions. LRAD clearly broadcasts critical information, instructions and warnings to distances in excess of 3,000 meters. Through the use of focused multi-lingual voice commands and deterrent tones, LRAD creates increased standoff and safety zones, supports conflict resolution, and potentially prevents the use of deadly force.
“The LRAD 500X easily integrates with existing HMMWV and RG-31 MRAP vehicles to provide Army personnel with the means to communicate clearly with civilian populations, and the capacity to resolve uncertain situations peacefully,” remarked Tom Brown, president and CEO of ATC. “Our first 300X deliveries to the U.S. Navy are scheduled to deploy with VBSS (Visit Board Search and Seizure) teams, enabling them to communicate in any language from a safe distance. The VBSS teams plan to use the 300X units in their maritime boarding actions to combat terrorism, piracy and smuggling, and in conducting customs and safety inspections.”
“Our LRAD systems provide a highly effective communications capability and an escalation-of-force option, which can potentially prevent injuries and even save lives on both sides of the device,” concluded Brown. “We are pleased that the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy have recognized LRAD as the only AHD to meet or exceed their rigorous specifications.”
